Breast Surgery Risks

Before deciding whether natural breast enhancement is the right choice, one must research all the options available to them.

Breast SurgeryOne of the most popular methods of breast enhancement is surgery. However, besides being expensive, there are some other cons to this option.

As with any cosmetic surgery, undergoing a breast enhancement may pose some health risks. Some of these risks are serious, while others are minor complications.

Some of the more serious health risks associated with breast enhancement surgery are:

  • Capsular Contracture – This occurs when the scar tissue forming around the breast implant begins to tighten and squeeze it. Over several months, this complication can change the breast shape, make the breast harden, and/or be very painful. Surgery may be needed to correct the problem or to remove the implant.
  • Hematoma – This is a collection of blood around the breast implant or around the incision area. Hematoma usually occurs soon after surgery and may result in swelling, pain, and bruising. Small hematomas are absorbed into the body; however, larger ones may need surgical draining which often leaves minimal scarring.
  • Difficult Detection of Breast Cancer – Despite past rumors, breast implants do not cause breast cancer, but they may interfere with cancer detection. The implant may hide any suspicious looking patches if tissue in the breast during a mammogram, thus causing the physician to overlook any serious problems. Also, because the breast is squeezed during the mammogram, it is possible for an implant to rupture during the procedure. It is important for every woman to make the technician aware of her breast implant before the procedure.

Other minor problems that may occur after breast enhancement surgery include:

  • Calcium deposits
  • Infection
  • Deflation
  • Loss of nipple sensation
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Bleeding
  • Scarring
  • Reactions to anesthesia

It is important to discuss these possible risks with your physician before deciding between a natural breast enhancement and a surgical breast enhancement.
