Male Breast Enlargement: Male to Female Regendering
Our society generally associates plastic surgery primarily with women. The fact is an increasing number of men are undergoing procedures to enhance their looks (facial) or support their transgender lifestyle. Male breast enlargement is one of the most common changes for men who are not comfortable with the gender they were born with. Male to female reassignment seems to be more frequent than the other way around.
Beside surgery, many other options such as creams, pills, massage and diet are feasible to enlarge male breasts. These methods are proven to be quite effective, resulting in a feminine and attractive breast. Non-surgical male breast enlargement treatments are more effective today than those available in the past. Many men report that the contour and feel of naturally enhanced breasts is far more appealing than breast augmentation through surgery, and less costly. The first step for a male candidate is to choose between surgery and natural methods.
Surgical Procedures
There are two types of breast implants available: silicone or saline. The silicone implant provides a more natural feel, and comes in predetermined sizes. After surgery, if the effect is not satisfactory, they can be removed and new implants inserted in a larger or smaller size. The procedure is relatively expensive, and rarely covered by insurance. In the past, it was difficult to determine the consequences of a silicone leak. Questions concerning potential physical effects arose: could silicone get into the bloodstream and could damage occur to the underlying tissues. The side effects of silicone leakage, if any, were unknown. After several years and substantial testing, the FDA re-approved the implant in 2006.
The saline implant poses less risks since saline is merely salt water. There is no indication of tissue damage if a leak occurs. The implants can be customized, made larger or smaller by adding or removing saline without further surgery.
One of the drawbacks of breast implants for males is they can be unsightly. Unlike females, a man has less chest skin and therefore it is possible to notice the implant just under the skin. In order to avoid this, a procedure, similar to breast reconstruction after mastectomy, can be performed. Prior to the insertion of implants, expanders are placed under the chest skin to stretch the breast area, causing it to become more elastic. The doctor injects saline into the expander once a month until the desired size is attained. After removal of the expanders, the saline or silicone implants are placed into the breast cavity. Keep in mind that few men have enough chest skin to create an aesthetically pleasing breast.
Surgery is not without risks. Infection, ill-fitting implants, chronic pain, nerve damage and excessive bleeding can occur after surgery. These risks are significantly lower when surgery is performed by a board certified, experienced and reputable physician.
Drug Therapies
Steroid or hormone therapy is another option with regard to male breast enlargement. A doctor may prescribe steroid injections or pills, which cause the pectoral muscles of the chest to increase in size and create a more natural looking breast. Although the treatment has potential side effects, it is nevertheless a more natural way to achieve breast enlargement.
When males take female hormones, the result is a more effeminate appearance as a whole, including a change in facial traits as well as body characteristics. Not only will the breasts enlarge, but the body will appear more curvaceous. The application of make-up can transform a male into a stunning female. After cessation of hormone or steroid therapy, the transformation can continue for many months. Again, serious potential risks are involved.
Other Breast Enhancers
Many males can achieve larger breasts by using various combinations of topical creams, supplements, massage and diet:
• Males desiring natural enhancement use the topical creams sold to women, with promises of “bigger breasts”. The creams vary in ingredients but usually contain a mix of hormones and herbal preparations. An allergic reaction to some of the ingredients in the cream can occur; a test patch can usually determine the source.
• The most effective breast enhancement supplements on the market are herbal extracts containing natural estrogen that stimulates receptors in the mammary glands, causing the breast to grow fuller and firmer.
• In addition to creams and supplements, massage is necessary for two reasons: to direct the herbal preparations to the breast area and to stimulate a hormone called prolactin. This hormone, present in both males and females, contributes to breast enlargement and milk production.
• Weight loss is helpful in making the breasts appear larger on a male frame. There are certain foods that are deemed to produce positive breast changes, when added to the diet. They are: licorice, fennel, soy products, flax seed, fenugreek (an herb) and saw palmetto. Eating plenty of vegetables improves overall health, and while it may not specifically help increase breast size, it will help the tone of developed breasts.
